Review: Taking Shots by Toni Aleo

Blurb:

Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough, let it be her job, her weight, her love life, nothing. That is until she meets Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her world.

Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She was feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her. Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life.

Can Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her, or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy.

My Review:

I love hockey romance, and I have no idea why I waited so long to try Toni Aleo’s Assassin series. This is the first book and the series starts of strong. Shea Adler has easily become a favorite hero of all time for me. He easily wins me over and I can definitely see why Ellie Fisher falls in love with him, mostly because despite her insecurities he doesn’t let her not fall in love with him. The man is super determined and I love that about him.

The story builds up slowly and simmers nicely and left me very satisfied when I finished. I wanted my own Shea, and envied Ellie. I very much related to Ellie and some of her insecurities and I definitely loved being able to have the fantasy of a very attractive man like Shea sweeping a plain jane, at least in her eyes of her feet. Ms. Aleo gives us a beautiful love story and I know I’ll be reading the rest of the series and very possibly re reading this book.

I recommend this story for lovers of strong hockey players who don’t let their women put themselves down and know how to properly worship a woman. This is the story for any woman who doesn’t think they deserve a hunky hero, because Ms. Aleo gives the fantasy that it could happen and a perfect way to spend an evening.
