Prince Hafiz's Only Vice by Susanna Carr - Review/Giveaway

Prince Hafiz’s Only Vice
by Susanna Carr

BLURB:

What a royal wants…

Prince Hafiz devotes his days to his people and his nights to indulging his desires with his stunning American mistress, Lacey Maxwell. But duty requires him to marry a "suitable" bride.

In her deepest secret fantasies, Lacey naively hopes to one day wear Hafiz's ring, until her dreams are shattered and he chooses someone else.

Faced with the reality of a passionless union, Hafiz realizes the years spent with Lacey have done nothing to slake his hunger for her. Instead he's determined to turn his only vice into a virtue for the sake of his country…and each other!

Prince Hafiz loves Lacey, and Lacey loves him, but she thought they had a future, and he must marry for country and duty to be the faithful son. I felt both characters, Lacey for her disillusioned hopes and dreams and Hafiz, because he’s stuck in a life he doesn’t want.

This had a lot of angst, and I was almost sure the story was going one way, and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t fall back on overused tropes to pull itself out. I wanted to yell and scream at the characters a few times, and that’s usually a sign of a good book to me if I care enough to become so engaged.

In the end, I enjoyed the twist and turns and liked that while it had its struggles and angst filled moments, I didn’t feel like any of that angst was just used without cause. I definitely enjoy and recommend this story.

Excerpt:

Lacey stared at the engagement announcement. Her mind refused to comprehend the words. "Marry?" she whispered. Her wild gaze flew to Hafiz's harsh face. "You're getting married?"

She waited in agony as he rose to his full height. He looked very tall and intimidating. Almost like a stranger.

Lacey didn't realize she was holding her breath until he answered. "Yes."

The single word sent her universe into a spiral. "I don't…I don't…." She stared at the headline again, but the pain was too raw, too intense.

Her hands shook as the rage and something close to fear swirled inside her. Fear of losing everything. Pure anger at the thought of Hafiz with another woman. The fury threatened to overpower her. She wanted to scream at the injustice and claw at something. Stake her claim. Hafiz belonged to her.

"You have been with another woman." She couldn't believe it. "All this time, you were with someone else."

Hafiz's eyes narrowed at the accusation. "No. You have been the only woman in my life since I met you in St. Louis a year ago."

She was the only woman, and yet he was going to marry another? "Then how are you…I don't understand."

He braced his feet a shoulders' width apart and clasped his hands behind his back, preparing for battle. "I met the bride today and she agreed."

Lacey's mouth gaped open. "You just met her?" She snatched the flicker of hope and held on tight. "So, it's an arranged marriage."

Hafiz let out a bark of humorless laughter. "Of course."

"Then, what's the problem?" She moved slowly as she stood. Her arms and legs felt limp and shaky. "Say that you won't get married."

He looked away. "I can't." Regret tinged his voice.

Holiday Romance Hop!

Holiday Hop Featuring Jill Shalvis, Carolyn Brown, Grace Burrowes, Terry Spear, and Sarah Morgan + Giveaway

Ready or not, Christmas is right around the corner, which means shopping, food, family — and holiday romances! This season, award winning authors Jill Shalvis, Carolyn Brown, Terry Spear, and Sarah Morgan each have Christmas romances releasing. To get readers into the holiday spirit, the authors answer the following question: What is your favorite Christmas tradition?

Ladies, take it away!

Jill Shalvis author of One in a Million

My absolute favorite Christmas tradition comes on Christmas Eve when my three girls give each other their presents. These are presents that they’ve bought with their own money, or made with their own hands, for each other. I just love watching them excited to GIVE presents, not just receive. Growing up, I was desperate for a sense of family, for sisters, it never happened. It gives me so much pleasure now that my girls have what I didn’t.

Carolyn Brown author of Cowboy Boots for Christmas

Mr. B and I have this Christmas tradition that we look forward to every year. We have Easter and Thanksgiving at our house and the kids all come home on those holidays (that means cooking for 30 to 50 people). So on Christmas our kids all have their own traditions and we spend Christmas Day on the beach in Florida. We give each other this trip as our present to each other almost every year and we enjoy each other’s company for two weeks. There’s no agenda other than sitting on the deck and watching the sun set over the water in the evening, feeding the gulls and petting the cat that makes its home at the place where we stay. The sound of the ocean is my muse and sometimes I get the most wonderful plotting done while I’m there.

Grace Burrowes author of What A Lady Needs for Christmas

Gathering with family and friends, which goes way, way back. Winter seems like the worst time of year to travel, but between the cold and darkness, it’s also the time we need each other’s support the most. I take that for a year round metaphor, too.

Terry Spear author of A Highland Wolf Christmas

In A Highland Wolf Christmas, the children in the pack toss their Christmas lists into the fire where the smoke carries their message to Santa in Lapland. Now what could be more fun than that? I loved it! For us, it's opening a Christmas present Christmas Eve.

Sarah Morgan author of Maybe This Christmas

Choosing the tree. We go to the forest and it’s often snowy, crisp and cold. The foresters always have a wonderful fire blazing and we drink hot chocolate to warm up. Then my sons and I choose the biggest tree we can find and my husband, who is the voice of reason, points out that it won’t fit in the house.

Reaper's Stand by Joanna Wylde - Review

As Reapers Motorcycle Club president, Reese “Picnic” Hayes has given his entire life to the club. After losing his wife, he knew he’d never love another woman. And with two daughters to raise and a club to manage, that was just fine with him. These days, Reese keeps his relationships free and easy—he definitely doesn’t want to waste his time on a glorified cleaning lady like London Armstrong.

Too bad he’s completely obsessed with her.

Besides running her own business, London’s got her junkie cousin’s daughter to look after—a more reckless than average eighteen-year-old. Sure she’s attracted to the Reapers’ president, but she’s not stupid. Reese Hayes is a criminal and a thug. But when her young cousin gets caught up with a ruthless drug cartel, Reese might be the only man who can help her. Now London has to make the hardest decision of her life—how far will she go to save her family?

The fourth book in the continuing series from author Joanna Wylde. This was one of my favorites of the series, maybe it was because the hero and heroine were older and more mature. There wasn’t that innocent virgin feel, although she is a bit a naïve when it comes to the world of MCs.

Reese “Picnic” Hayes is the president of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and he’s seen and done it all, he’s not willing or ready to fall in love again. He kept help that he’s insanely attracted to London, even though she’s older than most of the women he’s kept company with since his wife died.

London, wants to settle down and marry a good guy after spending her younger years raising her cousin’s daughter. Only her cousin’s daughter has some medical issues and a bit of an impulse control problem. So when her charge goes a bit wild, she turns to Picnic to make sure that her charge doesn’t misbehave with any of the MCs.

A lot of stuff goes down in this book, I was enthralled the whole time and could not put this book down. It was actioned packed, sexy and full of suspense. I highly recommend it. I honestly think you could start here with the series is you wanted to, since it stands alone well.

Cowboy Boots for Christmas by Carolyn Brown

Callie Brewster didn’t figure she’d ever see Finn O’Donnell again when they parted company in Afghanistan. But when her little brother witnesses a killing, everything changes. The government says they’ll put him in witness protection, but Callie doesn’t trust anyone to protect her brother—except for Finn O’Donnell.

All Finn wants for Christmas is some peace and quiet on his newly purchased ranch. But he owes Callie Brewster his life, and he always repays a debt. Now there’s a woman in the house who joined the army to get away from ranching, a boy who is scared of his shadow, and a feud going on amongst the other ranchers. Yet in the midst of all the chaos, Finn is happier and more at peace than he’s ever been before…

I’m already celebrating the feeling of Christmas with books, and Cowboy Boots for Christmas evoked that warm feeling. It starts with a man, Finn O’Donnell enjoying his solitude on his new ranch, and then arrives Callie Brewster and her nephew, they seem to be running from trouble.

The was this set up of suspense because of what Callie is running from, but it doesn’t really come into play with the expected being pursued, instead it’s a heartwarming tale of two friends falling in love. Callie and Finn have a long history, and they really do have amazing chemistry, but they’re so blind to their love that they’re the last to know.

There is also this great Hatfield and McCoy-esque feud going on in Burnt Boot, and I loved that crazy aspect of the town. It’s so full of fabulous secondary characters that I’m looking forward to more in the series.

I highly recommend this story, it has all the aspects of a great small town romance with great Christmas feelings.

Hot Rebel by Lynn Raye Harris - Spotlight/Giveaway

Title: Hot Rebel
Author: Lynn Raye Harris
Release Date: September 29, 2014
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Blurb:

A rebel on the run…

Victoria Royal is a traitor. Or so the U.S. government believes. Victoria was once a promising sniper in the Army, but now she’s gone rogue—worse, she’s just landed in the middle of a Hostile Operations Team mission in the desert and blasted it all to hell.

Nick “Brandy” Brandon doesn’t expect to run into Victoria when he’s bugging out from a mission gone wrong. It’s been more than three years since she disappeared from the sniper course they were in together, and he’s finally stopped thinking about her killer curves and smart mouth.

But now she’s back—and she’s far more dangerous than Nick ever believed possible… Is she really a traitor? Or is there something more at stake? He has to decide fast—because time’s running out and too many lives hang in the balance…

Driven by some emotion she couldn’t name, Victoria turned and walked back over to Nick. He was frowning at her when she reached up and pulled his head down. She pressed her lips to his cheek, felt the roughness of his stubble and breathed the smell of him—sand, spice, and cool water—deep into her lungs.

“Thanks for saving me,” she said, her lips close to his ear.

She started to step away, but he caught her close and turned his head, his lips meeting hers. The contact was shocking—and delicious in a way she hadn’t anticipated. She’d been kissed before, but this… this was better than any of those kisses had been.

His mouth was soft and hard against hers, his hands firm on her hips as he held her against him. The kiss was hot and tame all at once. Simultaneously the most arousing and most chaste kiss she’d ever had. He didn’t force her mouth open, didn’t thrust his tongue between her lips—he just kissed her hard and thoroughly before setting her away from him and taking a step backward.

And, God, she wanted his tongue so badly now. Wanted to feel it sliding against her own, stroking her senses higher.

But the kiss was over and he was looking at her, his jaw firm and a hard look in his eyes.

“You’re welcome,” he said, and it took her a moment to remember that she’d thanked him for saving her.

“I… I have to go.” Her cheeks flamed as she said it because he knew she had to leave as well as she did. The car was running, and she’d left the door open. She took a step backward, and then another.

Then she turned and got inside the car, determined not to look at him again. But she failed because she looked up, her gaze clashing with his right as she closed the door. And she didn’t look away as they drove off. Nick didn’t move from the spot she’d left him standing in.

It was only when the car turned and he was out of sight that she remembered how to breathe.

Purr-fect Mating by Sheryl Winters - Review/Giveaway

Purr-fect Mating
by Sheryl Winters

Fhina and Wulfar have a little problem.

On their wedding night, at the stroke of midnight, Wulfar changes into his shifted wolf form and cannot shift back. Not even to communicate with the woman he loves.

Fhina, upon waking the day after their mating, no longer recognizes her mate. Pregnant and confused, she’s convinced herself her mate has run away and left her to live alone. With his dog.

Can the cursed pair find a counter charm before Fhina gives birth? Will Wulfar be able to curb his inclination to run?

Or will their mutual curses break up their love affair before it’s really even started.

A fantastic fantasy story that I enjoyed the short but satisfying nature of. It had it all witches, shifters, curses and magic, I really loved how it felt like a full length novel.

I’m a total sucker for fated mates and Fhina and Wulfar were definitely that. This story had an original twist with some pretty hefty curses on both main characters and I enjoyed watching how they figure out a way around them. I really loved the way the story twisted and turned, and I definitely recommend this story!

I received a copy for the purpose of review. I was not compensated for my review.

Excerpt:

“It’s just…Wulfy’s missing, and I thought—” The words stick in my throat. What if she won’t help? How will I ever find him?

“He’s what?” In the background, I can hear loud thumps and shouting. “I’m getting the duct tape out. I’ll use it this time, I swear it!”

“You will not.” I bite back a giggle.

“I might. You have no idea what I’m putting up with. They spent all week at Mom’s, and she hyped them up on pixie sticks and soda. I’ve exhausted a whole day peeling them off the ceiling. I’m just hoping when it wears off they’ll sleep for a week.”

“Good luck with that.”

“Did you say Wulfy is missing? How long’s he been gone? He’s probably off for a long run. Wolves do that, you know? Remember how Mom used to take off for days, leaving us with Aunt Ginger? Always claiming she was out hunting, when she was really in Vegas gambling?”

“But, I haven’t seen him in days.” I shove the notepad back and forth across the table.

“Did you, uhm…snap at him?”

“No!”

“Well, fess up. What happened?”

“Nothing. I was on the phone with Mom and I uh…” I try to remember the conversation. “I told her about the doggy bowl I got for Wulfy. I even gave him the fancy new dog food I got for him. He scratched at the door and I let him out.”

“You got him a dog bowl?” Bella chokes.

“Well, yes. I thought it was a nice thing to do.”

Honestly, wolves. They never make sense, even in human form. Of course, I gave Wulfy a dog bowl, how else do you show a dog you love them? One can’t go around petting them 24/7.

Geek Bearing Gifts

Excerpt:

“So you see, I want a man that will be interested in me as a person. Not just for sex. Not for money, which I don’t have. Not for whatever he might think he can get out of me. I want to be wanted for the woman inside. And I sure as hell want to be wanted sexually too.”
Mrs. Wilder cocked her head to the side, staring at her with her soulful eyes. “Darling, there are many sides to you. Your beauty, your body, your wit, your abilities at work. What do you want to focus on if anything in particular?”
She leaned back on the sofa, the seat dipping under her butt. The leather squeaked with the weight of her body. “I want more than sex. Don’t get me wrong, sex is great.”
Mrs. Wilder snorted, her eyes turned bright with amusement. Her lips twisted in a smirk and a small dimple showed on her right cheek. She appeared even younger when she smiled. “Sex is amazing when done correctly. Especially if he can figure out how to be all alpha and make your legs shake.”
Oh, damn! She choked on the cookie she’d taken a bite of, chocolate spewing from her lips with each cough. She picked up a napkin and tried to clear her throat. Mrs. Wilder was a freak.
