All the Colors of the Night by Jayne Ann Krentz - #Review

Title: All the Colors of the Night
Author: Jayne Ann Krentz
Rating: 4 Books
Blurb: North Chastain possesses a paranormal talent that gives him the ability to track down the most dangerous psychic criminals. When his father suddenly falls into a coma-like state, North is convinced it was caused by a deadly artifact that traces back to the days of a secret government program known only as the Bluestone Project. North knows his only hope of saving his father is to find the artifact. He is good when it comes to tracking down killers, but to locate the relic he’s going to need help from a psychic who knows the shadowy world of obsessive collectors, deceptive dealers and ruthless raiders.…
With her reputation in ruins after a false accusation, antiques expert Sierra Raines is looking for a fresh start. She turns to the murky backwaters of the paranormal artifacts trade, finding and transporting valuable objects with a psychic provenance. When North Chastain approaches her for help, Sierra takes him on as a client, though not without reservations. North represents the mysterious Foundation, the secretive organization established to police the underworld populated by psychic criminals and those, like Sierra, who make a living in the shadows of that world.
North and Sierra soon find themselves at the scene of the Incident, which occurred decades ago in Fogg Lake. The town and its residents were forever changed by the disaster in the nearby Bluestone Project labs. The pair unearths shocking truths about what happened that fateful night, but they are playing with fire—someone in town knows what they’ve discovered and will do anything to make sure the secrets stay buried.

This is a return to Krentz's paranormal romantic suspense that I fell in love with. It's a lot of set up to help it be a standalone to new readers, which I am sure and hope means she picked up new readers, but it pulls a seasoned fan out of the story a bit. That's my biggest complaint with the story. Overall I liked Sierra and North, they were great characters that helped push the suspense plot, and I enjoyed them as characters. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to the next book. It's not as suspenseful of some of her others, but I will continue to read all of Krentz's books.

#NewRelease Bitten Under Fire by @HVLong #Review

Title: Bitten Under Fire
Author: Heather Long
Series: Bravo Team WOLF
Rating: 5 Books
Blurb: Bianca Devlin’s work is her life. Now, she’s finally taking a vacation...and guerillas hit her resort to kidnap a diplomat’s son. She does the only thing that makes sense—intervene to save the child’s life. Being dragged into the jungle with a scared kid she’s determined to protect was definitely not how she saw this trip ending.

After she returns to Texas, the last person Bianca expected to see was Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, the member of Bravo Team WOLF that helped rescue her. Nevertheless, there he is, living across the street from the house she just bought. The coincidence is alarming, but she has to admit, his presence isn’t entirely unwanted.

But there’s something off about Cage—the way he can move without a sound or the weird way his eyes seem to almost glow at times. And how can Bianca manage her growing attraction, when everything she knows about him and his reason for being there, turns out to be a lie?

Bianca goes on vacation...and it isn't the peaceful vacation she envisioned, but she is the type of person who sees a situation and does her best to survive and keep others around her alive and thriving. She risks her life to a child, and does a good job of saving him until enter Bravo Team WOLF being lead by Cage. Things go a bit wonky but Cage is easily a candidate for the best hero I've read in a long time.

Ms. Long continues to always delight with her world building and the work and care that has gone into coming up with her world and rules for the world shows in how easy it is to fall into the story and feel like you are there with the characters feeling and seeing what they are experiencing.

I love both the main character because they were relatable on a human level. I definitely love these wolves and look forward to the rest of Bravo Team WOLF falling in love, I can only hope their love stories are just as much fun.

So to recap, I loved Bianca because she didn't take no crap from Cage or anyone, she was a heroine who could rescue herself but Cage does it so well, that I'm happy she let him rescue her. Cage is a charming hero that when he messes up does a good job making up for it, and overall I was thoroughly impressed with the story, the setting and the characters. I will wait somewhat patiently for more stories in this series, though they are definitely easily standalone, I enjoyed feeling like I already knew the cast of characters.

So read this one, and read When Danger Bites too.

#NewRelease Bernie by Brianna West @bwest0426 #spotlight

Nyla, born and raised in the In-Between realm as the princess of the Spiritum Bellatorum, has been betrothed from birth and forced to conceal the true personality within in order to project herself as nothing but the perfect princess she was taught to be.

When her brother betrays their kind, Nyla acquires an unprecedented mission to find and convince him to come home. Teaming up with the Promiscus Guardians to locate her runaway brother in the mortal realm, Nyla is introduced to the resident comedian and self-proclaimed cowboy Guardian, Bernie.

He is everything she wishes she could be outwardly and she’s instantly intrigued by his happy, easy-going nature. But, like Nyla, Bernie is keeping a part of himself tightly locked away.

What will happen when their barriers start to come down? Will they be able to overcome so many obstacles laid out before them, or will their relationship be torn apart before they have a chance to find something deeper?

My breathing had shallowed and grown uneven as I quivered underneath his confident touch, unable to ignore what it meant to let him go further. My chest heaved again, my body visibly trembling as Bernie’s gaze held mine. He was seeking my permission to do more, and I couldn’t help that that simple kind act renewed my desire to give the Guardian whatever he asked of me.

Pulse thudding in my ears, I returned his stare with all the strength and confidence I could muster, never having felt so weak and helpless in my life. I wished desperately that he would let me remain silent. Because, if I was forced to speak right now, I was sure that my voice would betray the hard-fought command I usually carried. The emotion was so great that I might even be overcome by it and cry for the first time since my mother’s death.

Bernie smiled affectionately, kissing me softly on the lips, as if he understood the unspoken consent in my eyes, and glided his hand beneath my lace panties. His fingers pressed lightly between my legs, touching me where I’d grown wet from his passionate kisses. A groan rumbled between us as Bernie’s fingers teased me, sliding over the wetness that had collected. I gasped sharply, hips jerking with surprise when pleasure flooded my lower half as my heart skipped over its hard, powerful beat.

Bernie drew away, groaning once more, and then his fingers were grazing over the place where everything felt infinitely more pleasurable, making my body curve upwards when it was almost too much.

“How’s a man supposed to keep it together when you’re this wet, darling? I’m barely holding it together here.”
