Cambridge, punting and The Silk Series
Hi all! Thanks so much for stopping by. For those of you who
don’t know me, I'm Cassandra Dean and I write historical romance ranging from
sweet to steamy. I also play about in the eras, roaming from Ancient Rome to
Victorian to the Old West and beyond. My books take readers on an emotional
rollercoaster, from the lowest of lows to the joyous of highs. And, of course,
my characters fall into the forever kind of love.
Today, I thought I’d
chat a little about Cambridge and The Silk Series, of
which book 1, SILK &
SCANDAL, is available! Yay!
The Silk Series features
four lads who went to Trinity College in Cambridge, two lasses who live near
the colleges, and two ring-ins who were nowhere near Cambridge…poor Nicola and
Sarah, no real mention of them in this post! Ah well, that’s what you get for
not attending/living near Cambridge. I was hopeful there would be a college for
ladies at the time The Silk
Series is set, but alas it’s not to be. However, that doesn’t stop my
ladies from wanting to set one up…To reveal any more would be spoilers. Heh.
I was lucky enough to
visit this university town on a big, adventuresome three-month European holiday
a few years back (the holiday was mega awesome, just quietly). Cambridge was
one of the stops and the university town was quite the thing, with so many
surprising little details. For example, there are bicycles EVERYWHERE. It seems
bikes are the predominant mode of transport and there are masses and masses of
them chained up, just waiting for the students who are hard at work inside the
various universities to emerge. It’s also a beautiful place, with the river Cam
winding through the town and lending itself to the joy of punting (it’s a boat,
peeps!).
Alas, I only got to
spend a few hours in Cambridge, but it was more than enough to leave an
impression. When it came time for me to pick a place where the lads of The Silk Series studied law,
I immediately remembered those bikes and the beauty (and the fact there were
universities!) and thus Cambridge features in The Silk Series.
Now it’s over to you! Have
you visited Cambridge? Where you flabbergasted by the proliferation of bikes?
If you haven’t visited, would you like to? What, if anything, intrigues you
about this University town? I’d love to hear from you all in the comments.
Thanks for stopping by!

Thomas Cartwright and Lady Nicola Fitzgibbons were friends. Over the wall separating their homes, Thomas and Nicola talked of all things – his studies to become a barrister, her frustrations with a lady’s limitations.

All things end.
When her diplomat father gains a post in Hong Kong, Nicola must follow. Bored and alone, she falls into scandal. Mired in his studies of the law and aware of the need for circumspection, Thomas feels forced to sever their ties.

Cassandra grew up daydreaming, inventing
fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures. Once she learned to read (First
phrase – To the Beach. True story), she was never without a book, reading of
other people’s fantastical worlds and marvelous adventures.
Fairy
tales, Famous Fives, fantasies and fancies; horror stories, gumshoe detectives,
science fiction; Cassandra read it all. Then she discovered Romance and a true
passion was born.
So,
once upon a time, after making a slight detour into the world of finance,
Cassandra tried her hand at writing. After a brief foray into horror, she
couldn’t discount her true passion. She started to write Romance and fell head
over heels.
The
love affair exists to this very day.
