Review: Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks

Highlander Most Wanted
Book 2 The Montgomerys and Armstrongs

Blurb:

In Highlander Most Wanted, a reclusive woman content to live in the shadows shows a Highland warrior the true meaning of love.

Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress—something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.

My Review:

I love Maya Banks’ historicals and Highlander: Most Wanted didn’t waver from the quality of story I’ve come to expect from her. This is the second story of her Montgomerys and Armstrongs trilogy, and we take up right after the first. For that reason alone, I’m going to say it is best read in order. I think it’s possible to enjoy Genevieve and Bowen’s story without reading Never Seduce a Scot first, but there is a higher level of enjoyment that comes with understanding the backstory and plot driving events.

Genevieve McInnis, is beautiful, strong and a survivor and I loved her from the instant she stood her ground against the small minded McHughs. The cruelty that she has endured under the last crazy laird endeared her to me. I really hurt for her, which I think is a testament to Ms. Banks’ storytelling, she engaged me with a character.

Bowen Montgomery is everything I love to see in a Highland hero. He is brave, loyal and a champion of those weaker than him. From the moment he arrives at the McHugh Keep and feels outrage over the clans people’s cowardice and treatment of Genevieve, he won my heart.

Historical romance, especially Highland romance paints a picture of a fanciful time in history, where men were loyal, honorable and chivalry was very much alive. There is something comforting about reading a story where I know that the hero will fall in love and possibly slay an enemy or two to win his lady’s love.
I highly recommend Ms. Banks’ Highlander: Most Wanted, it’s an enjoyable read, with sexy undertones that had me sighing with happiness.

  1. I just adore her books. I still need to try her historicals but oh her suspense ones are so good! Even with the harsh subjects I find them rather comforting too. Just knowing the men in her world are so stand up/do anything for their women wonderful. I really need to dive into these Highlander ones.

    Great review Sheri!
