Bear Attraction by Jennifer Ashley - #Review @JennAllyson @BerkleyRomance

As the military liaison between the human Shifter Bureau and Shiftertown, Walker is often stuck trying to appease both sides—and angering both. So when bear-Shifter Rebecca is captured taking a run in a restricted area, Walker has to talk fast to get her released. The compromise: if Rebecca helps him find a missing woman—thought to have been abducted by a Shifter—she won’t be charged and executed.

Mate-less Rebecca is not happy to be under Walker’s supervision. As a bear used to roaming for miles, she hates being confined and restricted, she distrusts anything involving humans, and—worst of all—the strong and handsome Walker starts triggering her mating need.
They have no choice but to work together, and as they continue their search for the missing girl, uncovering secrets neither Shifters nor humans want them to know, both Walker and Rebecca find it hard not to mix business with pleasure…

Rebecca is running free as a bear one minute the next, she’s being darted and Walker is there, telling her to cooperate so he can get her home. So Rebecca is enlisted to help Walker find a human girl, and the sparks fly between Becca and Walker.

I so enjoyed reading a story where the heroine is the growly Alpha shifter and the hero is an equally strong human that can hold his own. Ms. Ashley gave us a great story with intrigue and magic and I really loved every second of it.

It’s a novella that enriches the world, and yet, I think it could be read a standalone, although some little details and past characters popping up might confuse a new reader. I do highly recommend this whole series.

Moonlight Raider by Amanda Scott - Review @ForeverRomance

*Sheri Here: I'm completely in love with this cover. Beautiful dress, that I would love to own.*

A MAN OF HIS WORD

Border lord Walter Scott of Rankilburn, grief-stricken after burying his father, goes to the forest seeking solace. Instead he finds a half-naked young lady fleeing pursuit. Wat offers his protection, but honor demands that he return the golden-eyed beauty to her rightful husband-even though the last thing he wants is to see her in another man's arms.

A RUNAWAY BRIDE

Molly Cockburn has fled her home, family, and the brutal scoundrel she was forced to wed. Her pursuers are closing in when the powerful new Lord of Rankilburn bravely intervenes, then promises to help prove her marriage unlawful. Though fiercely loyal to her family, Molly fears they might harm the man she is coming to love, and now she must decide whether to remain faithful to her blood . . . or to her heart.

Molly Cockburn has lived a life of fear amongst her family, so when her family is determined to marry her off to a brute just like her father, she runs. She runs right into Walter Scott who despite what they rules say he needs to do, chooses to shelter her.

Molly and Walter falling in love is sweet, and Molly wins over Walter’s whole clan, but he’s a King’s men so he has to obey the rules of the land and send her back to her father.

I died a bit inside during certain scenes because Molly and Walter were definitely tested in their relationship and love. Ms. Scott brings them together in a way that shows that love can bloom anywhere.

I will be reading more by Ms. Scott in the future, she’s won me over and rekindled my love of historical romance.

The Black Sheep's Inheritance by Maureen Child - Review

Follow the money…into bed!

Estranged from his adoptive father, Sage Lassiter earned his own billions. But when J.D. Lassiter leaves a fortune to his private nurse in his will and cheats his own daughter of her rightful inheritance…Sage is enraged, to say the least. He's sure nurse Colleen Falkner isn't the innocent she appears. And he's willing to go to any lengths to expose her…even seduction.

But using sex—crazed, incredible sex—to find out what she knows could backfire. Because Colleen is not what Sage expected. And like it or not, she's about to demolish all the barriers he's carefully constructed around his heart.

A great story from a powerhouse like Maureen Child, this has it all, a slightly brooding grumpy Alpha male, a semi naïve sweet heroine who has a secret backbone, then throw in a small misunderstanding and it’s an entertaining read.

This definitely hooked me into the Lassiter world, and I look forward to reading more of this family and their stories. I really liked Sage, he’s grumpy and a bit misguided but when he falls, he falls hard. Colleen is a bit naïve because she’s never lived in the mountains of Wyoming, and easily falls in love with the charming and helpful Sage Lassiter.

When things come to a head, and they have issues, I felt like they handled it well, and it was understandable and well done in such a way that I could believe that they could find their way back to each other. I do recommend this story, it has passion and a lot of heart.

Copper King by Vivian Arend - Review

Three things make billionaire Jim Halcyon’s to-do list: women, work…and more women. It’s a perfect agenda for a rich shifter who has no problem letting his inner grizzly out to play. From the bright lights of Vegas, to the sophisticated action of New York—he’s got the money and the power to do anything he wants.

Anything, except resist the lure of Lady Luck, an ancient copper coin he gambles yearly to possess. Jim is determined to regain control of the pretty penny, and damn if he’ll let any bit of eye candy distract him from his goal. Not even the mesmerizing woman in the middle of the casino floor with the shimmering hair and enormous green eyes.

With a life-changing move ahead of her, Lillie’s finagled a temporary layover en route to her future. She’s got five days to soak in new experiences, and while Vegas is too big and shiny and loud for her shy bear self, she’s eager to do this up right. It’s the last chance she’s got to let her hair down.

Until his challenge begins, Jim is more than willing to oblige Lillie’s wish for a final fling. Only Lady Luck has some twists of fate planned for them both…

A fabulous novella in the world of one of my favorite series. I’ve already met Lillie and Jim in a later book in the Takhini Shifters series but I really enjoyed exploring the story of how they met and fell in love.

Vegas was the perfect backdrop for this story and this couple, it’s a place where anything goes and fling is just another way to soak up the wildness of Vegas. Jim and Lillie are perfect for each other, even if they both tell themselves they only want a fling. When these two come together their passion is explosive, and melts the pages.

I will say that Ms. Arend gives this little novella the perfect ending, that I didn’t see coming but suits these two characters beautifully. I highly recommend this story and really hope that Jim’s best friend gets his own story soon.

An interesting fantasy romance, that has it all politics, drama, lies and betrayal. I absolutely love the intrigue. I haven’t read the previous books but I did enjoy this one.

I really liked Celeste, she’s intelligent, loyal and a fighter, who fights for what she believes in, and I really admired that about her.

Rayn was another great character, also very loyal and the kind of prince any kingdom could ask for because he would fight and do what is best for his kingdom. Together they’re sweet, and the right amount of steamy. I really believed them as a couple.

I found myself hooked into this very fast paced plot, and I definitely recommend this story.

Vixen's Run by Zenina Master - Review

Tiff doesn’t want a mate, she wants to hide in the woods, but a peacock in need appeals to her and she agrees to help him regain something lost.

Tiffany has lived with a traumatic past and a family that puts her squarely in charge. She is ordered to the Crossroads and decides that if she has to leave home, she will have a holiday. Alone in the forest, she spends her time running in her fox form and enjoying the wilderness.

She sees a peacock in horrible shape. His feathers are dull and his shoulders are stooped. Tiff sees the trauma in him that matches her own, and she offers to help him get part of himself back.

Davus was one of the harvested shifters being held by the lions. He was healed in body but the pain of a year in a cage went far beyond skin deep. Tiffany sees his pain and doesn’t dismiss it or pity him. She offers to help him regain the mind-body connection, and he takes her up on it.

Tiff doesn’t want a mate, but she’s forced to the Crossroads, since she’s the eldest and no one else can mate until she does. So she’s planning on just hanging out in the Crossroads so she can say she tried. Then she sees a peacock, with dull feathers, and she’s determined to help him. They quickly fall for each other.

The Crossroads books are quick, fun to read and always entertaining. I know matter what when I pick them up, that I’ll be transported and entertained for a short while. I really liked the way Tiff liked to help people, and enjoyed seeing Davus come back into his own. It was interesting to see one of the harvested shifters find love.

A SEAL's Kiss by Tawny Weber - ARC Review

Subject: Navy SEAL Petty Officer Aiden Masters

Current Status: On leave

Obstacle: Deploy "Mission: (Fake) Engagement"…without actually falling for his fiancée!
The goal of Mission: Engagement is simple—a fake engagement concocted to bring happiness to Sage Taylor's ailing father.

The Rules:

1) Treat it like a military mission

2) Keep the truth undercover

3) The "engagement" lasts as long as the professor's health depends on it; and
4) No sex…especially with each other!

But the incredibly spirited (and a touch quirky) Sage has never been one for rules. Especially when they involve Aiden's rock-hard navy bod and a ton of smokin'-hot sexual attraction. Which means in order to seduce this sexy SEAL, she'll have to completely outmaneuver him….

I really loved this story by Tawny Weber. It had two opposites, a fake engagement, and friends to lovers, all some of my favorite tropes. Ms. Weber pulls this off beautifully. Both Aiden and Sage are strong willed and I loved them both.

I enjoyed the way that Sage’s free spirited way of life was so opposite of Aiden’s very orderly life. It led to some interesting scenes where their differences were highlighted well.

I do recommend this story, Aiden and Sage have amazing chemistry and they’re good friends so love comes quickly and easily, even though they’re afraid of it.

Seducing His Princess by Olivia Gates - Review

Mohab Aal Ghaanem once had Jala Aal Masood and lost her. Now, as a new king, he can end the explosive feud between their kingdoms, and fulfill his parting pledge to the princess of Judar that he would make her his wife.

Marry Mohab? Six years ago, the prince risked his life to save Jala, igniting her desires only to betray her trust. Now the ruthless seducer is forcing her into a sham marriage. Will it mean a second chance with the man she still craves or heartbreak when all their dark secrets are revealed?

I love stories where people who loved before get back together. Mohab is determined to win back Jala and it definitely shows. This is a very short read, that’s perfect for a quick pick me up read that leaves that happy glow behind. It’s a superb example of what Ms. Gates is great at, creating interesting characters that are well written and easy to invest in.

Mohab is sweet, kind and I loved his determined attitude when it comes to getting Jala back. Jala was also sweet and I like that I also see the real hurt that the betrayal caused and I liked that she questioned his sincerity.

There felt like there was a lesson about letting the past go and forgiveness is about letting go of pain. I really recommend this story. I also fully admit that I’m a huge fan of Ms. Gates and read pretty much everything she writes.

Forged in the Desert Heat by Maisey Yates - Review

A woman that could start a war

The Gypsy Sheikh, betrayer, modern-day marauder—Zafar Nejem has been called many things. And now he is to be called Your Majesty. Returning to the throne of Al Sabah, his first act is to rescue American heiress Analise Christensen from her desert kidnappers.

Since Ana is engaged to the ruler of the neighboring kingdom, her discovery must be concealed until Zafar can explain her presence, or else he risks war. But as the sun rises over the sand dunes, so does the forbidden heat that burns between them, threatening everything….

I loved the way this book starts out, but I adored the way it starts with the hero buying the heroine from her kidnappers. Ana is useful to him, but he doesn’t see himself falling for her, after all she is engaged to his enemy.

Zafar is a broken man, and doesn’t think he deserves love, and that made him a flawed but likeable character. Ana fights for Zafar and his love, and I loved that about her. It was a passionate story full of real engaging characters.

I highly recommend this story, it’s delicious and fun.

Montana Bride by Joan Johnston - Mini Review

When Karl Norwood’s mail-order bride meets an untimely demise on the way to the Montana Territory, Hetty Wentworth steps in to take her place. Hetty has no idea how she’s going to pretend to be all the things she isn’t—including the mother of two kids. She only knows her deception is necessary if she’s going to save two orphans from the awful fate she suffered as a child.

Karl smells a rat when a much younger woman than he was expecting arrives with two children who look nothing like her. But his mail-order bride is so beautiful, he doesn’t object—until he realizes that his charming new wife has been lying . . . about everything. Can a woman forced to keep secrets and a man hindered by distrust ever hope to find happily ever after in each other’s arms?

I really enjoyed Hetty and Karl’s story. Hetty starts out a little self centered but she grows up. Karl is plain looking which makes him a unique hero. I loved that he was always so good with his mail order bride and was very considerate about her and the children. The kids help make the story more awesome.

Entertaining and highly recommended.

The Billion Dollar Bachelor by Jackie Ashenden - Review

Jax Morrow is a dangerously handsome, spectacularly wealthy entrepreneur whose world is turned upside down when Pandora Garret walks into a dark, smoky bar one night—a stunning combination of sex and innocence. He knows she’s trouble at first sight, but Jax can’t let her leave…unless she’s leaving with him. Pandora has had enough. Kept under lock and key by her powerful, controlling father, she aches for freedom. When she briefly escapes and meets Jax she knows he is just what she has been looking for: forbidden, unforgettable passion. After one night in Jax’s arms, Pandora knows she can never go back to living under one man’s domination. Determined to control her own life she tries to resist Jax, but a dangerous desire rises between them—one that threatens to destroy them. But both Pandora and Jax discover that they just can’t be pulled away…

Not what I was expecting but pleasantly surprised with what I got. Yeah, Jax Morrow is a billionaire, but that isn’t something that is rubbed in and used to hold power over the heroine. It’s just who he is, and that was refreshing.

I really liked Pandora, she had a sheltered and at times lacking life. Others would look at her life and tell her to stop whining, but she was lacking the very basic human contact that we all crave.

She finds that human contact with Jax even though she doesn’t know if she can trust it because of the lessons taught by her childhood with a very distant father. I really liked that flaw edge that this gave Pandora, and Jax is far from perfect too. It’s enjoyable to read very human characters.

I really recommend this story and look forward to reading the other Morrow brother’s stories.

Miami, Mistletoe & Murder by Katie Reus - Review

Fierce and sexy, former Marine Travis Sanchez has always held himself back from the rest of the world, using his tattoos and piercings as armor. But when the woman he’s wanted for months is threatened, he knows it's time to strip away the bad boy image and show her just how much he wants to be with her. As one of Red Stone Security’s best contractors, Travis is trained for almost any situation. But nothing prepares him for the most dangerous threat of all: the one to his heart.

Kind-hearted Noel Baskov’s only wish for the holidays is that her Miami coffee shop has a successful Christmas season. But her focus on work is interrupted when the family of the young girl she mentors is threatened, and the man she’s been lusting after for months steps in to handle it. Unfortunately the danger is far from over. Can this sexy and mysterious warrior protect Noel, or will he be the one to shatter her heart?

Warning: features a heroine determined to fight for those she cares about, a protective hero with a very interesting piercing, and some holiday magic.

This was the perfect quick read with a very sexy hero and a very awesome heroine. I really loved Travis, and I really enjoyed that the author gave him such an interesting piercing.

Noel is a kind, sweet heroine and perfect for a man like Travis that has had a hard life and needs a place to rest. Noel is that place for him. I enjoyed this quick Christmas novella, and it definitely reflects Ms. Reus’s superb writing skills. She is able to craft a believable, suspenseful and very sexy story in a short amount of time. I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend it.

Feral Heat by Jennifer Ashley - ARC Review

From the author of Lone Wolf comes a paranormal romance about two lovers torn between ecstasy and savagery…

Jace Warden is sent to the Shiftertown in Austin to find a way to free all Shifters from their Collars. But pulling off the Collars can cause Shifters to go mad or kill them outright.

In Austin, Jace meets Deni Rowe, a wolf Shifter with troubles of her own—she was deliberately run down in the road, and while her body has healed, she still has episodes of total memory loss during which she retreats into her pure animal self.

Jace has never met anyone like Deni. Courageous and beautiful, she volunteers to help him test the Collar removal. And as Deni and Jace work together, they feel the mate bond begin. But can Jace help Deni believe she can heal enough to be anyone’s true mate?

A great novella that drives the series and the world created by Ms. Ashley forward. Jace and Deni are great characters and I enjoyed watching them both learn to be what the other needs.

I really love this series, because it’s obvious a lot of time and work has gone into building the world and creating loveable and flawed characters. This is a very character driven story and I loved that.

I highly recommend this novella, and look forward to more time spent among the shifters of the Shifters Unbound series.
