Review: Wolf Protector by Milly Taiden

Blurb:

A woman with a secret…

The Federal Paranormal Unit is an elite squad of supernaturals dedicated to solving missing persons cases. Erica’s gift allows her a special connection with the crime, but it comes at a deep personal cost… Until now, she’s kept her gift a secret, even from the other members of the team. But this case will throw her together with Agent Trent Buchanan. He’s the object of her secret desires, but he’s also a cocky womanizer. She’d rather swim in shark-infested waters with a paper cut than admit she has feelings for him.

A man with one desire…

Wolf Shifter Trent wants Erica more than he’s ever wanted any woman. He’s spent years patiently waiting for her to admit that she wants him too. Working one-on-one in a race to find a serial killer, Trent’s patience and Erica’s resolve wear thin. When Trent discovers the truth about Erica, will he accept her for who she is? And can he protect her from the horrors that her gift brings?

A case that pushes them to the edge…

Erica will have to risk it all if she wants to stop the killer, and when she does, Trent may have to put his own life on the line to make sure his mate is protected…

My Review:

This was a new premise for me. A supernatural unit in a world that knows nothing about supernaturals. Add in the part where even the own team don’t know each other’s abilities and it’s vastly unique.

I adored the way that Erica and Trent bantered back and forth. The whole story has this level of suspense that is broken up by bouts of banter and hot sex between Erica and Trent. Trent is a wolf shifter and knows that Erica is it for him. Watching Erica fight to find the missing girls and the killer and Trent doing everything to help her added this layer to the story. I could easily see him doing everything and anything to just make her life better.

Their relationship is steamy and yummy all rolled into one. I want my own Trent, someone so devoted to me. There are some other characters that I fell in love with that I look forward to reading their stories.

I recommend this story because it’s a great blend of steam and suspense.

Samantha Martin’s carefully reconstructed life is teetering on the edge of disaster. After surviving an abusive childhood, Sam is only months away from completing her hard-won college degree when she gets devastating news about her brother. Donnie, her protector and best friend, lies in a coma in a Charleston hospital.

Sam struggles with the question of who shot her beloved brother as well as the monumental expenses of his ongoing care, and in desperation seeks ready cash by agreeing to act as the “entertainment” for a local man’s bachelor party – where to her everlasting mortification, she encounters the one man who’d ever meant enough to her to break her heart.

Forensic artist Josh Harding recognizes the butterfly tattoo on the curvaceous hip of the wig-bedecked stripper. After all, he’d spent hours sketching her lovely figure while a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Now here she is, eight years later, and it becomes clear that Sam is in trouble. Seemingly unrelated threads weave into a pattern surrounding her and her brother. Exposing criminal enterprise among the upper echelon of local society and the shocking truth behind the city’s most famous murder, the unexpected connections that neither Josh nor Sam saw coming draw them both into a tangled web of love and Deception.

Interview:

To get started can you tell us what you are working on or have coming out?

Right now I am working on OBSESSION, which is the, er, follow-up to the follow-up of my current release, DECEPTION.  The book in between those two, NEMESIS, will be available in early November.

Which genre(s) do you write and is one of them your favorite?

I write romantic suspense, because I feel that it combines the best of my two favorite genres.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?

Well, my books are in series format, so even though they each stand alone, I would recommend beginning with the first one, SERENDIPITY.

 Plotter or Pantser? Why?

I am absolutely a pantser.  I admire plotters, I really do, but I never know where my characters are going to take me when I sit down at the computer.  I am definitely character-driven as opposed to being plot-driven.

About the Author:

One fine day in the not-too-distant past, Lisa Clark O’Neill left Wittenberg University with a BA in English, which she promptly neglected. After working as an interior designer, decorative artist, and Montessori art teacher (there may have been a BA in art as well,) she finally settled into the role of mother to two very fine children.

However, two years of doing the stay-at-home-mom brain cell melt drove her to pull out a pen and one of her old college notebooks.

That turned into six manuscripts.

Lisa spent subsequent years avoiding housework by burying her nose in just about every romance novel she could get her hands on, after completely falling in love with the genre. Her own work falls into the romantic suspense sub-genre, with strong comedic undertones.

Lisa currently lives in the Atlanta area with her family, her dog, her cat and her daughter’s pet rabbit. When she isn’t attempting to keep the rabbit from eating the woodwork, she’s hard at work on her next novel.

My Review:

I loved the first book, To Have a Human, I was excited to read the next book in the series. This continues parts of the storyline from the first but could easily be read as a stand-alone.

I’m not going to lie, I devour pretty much everything that Amber Kell writes. I could probably happily read her shopping lists. This is such a fun world that makes me love shifter romances all over again. This story follows a freshwater crocodile named Denton Stills, who’s living in the cold waters of Seattle, Washington. The idea of a crocodile and a puma being mates definitely intrigued me.

Ms. Kell pulls it off beautifully, this is a beautiful M/M love story. Yes, there are some sexy scenes but at the core this is a sweet romance. I adored the two main characters by then end, and their friends and families all need their own stories so I can immerse myself in this world all over again.

I highly recommend this story for the sweet romance, the world building, and the sexy shifters. So grab this book, and maybe the first one too!

Review: Officer Off Limits by Tessa Bailey

Blurb:

His need to possess her is non-negotiable.

Story Brooks’ fiancé just called off their wedding two weeks before the happy day. As if that isn't bad enough, her semi-estranged father, an infamous NYPD hostage negotiator, has suffered a heart attack. Not wanting to examine her lack of emotion over the broken engagement, she hops on a plane to reconnect with her father before it’s too late.

Playboy hostage negotiator Daniel Chase has never, not once, been refused by a woman, so when a debate over hospital snack foods with a delectable kindergarten teacher ends in flat-out rejection, he makes it his mission to seduce her. His only obstacle? She’s the daughter of his mentor who implicitly forbade Daniel from pursuing her.

Despite her father’s warnings and Daniel’s troubled past, Daniel and Story can’t resist their intense attraction to one another. But when the reason for her fiancé’s abrupt wedding cancellation comes to light, can Story and Daniel's already forbidden relationship survive?

My Review:

Story Brooks is on the rebound when she ventures to NYC to visit her sick father, enter playboy NYPD hostage negotiator Daniel Chase, he’s the exact opposite of her ex-fiancé and their chemistry is off the charts. Her father tells her to stay away and threatens Daniel away from his daughter, but they can’t keep their hands off each other.

The scenes were blazing hot when these two got alone, be it in a public place or not. I needed an ice cold glass of water to help cool me down. This is definitely not a book for a faint of heart. Ms. Bailey knows how to write a smoking hot sex scene.

Throw in a man who’s never been in love and isn’t sure he’s worthy of love and Daniel Chase stole my heart. I was completely and utterly in love with him by the end of the book. Story is one lucky lady. This story twists and turns and these two flawed but complex characters made this a story that I highly recommend. They both do a lot of growing and stretching of wings and I loved them both.

I recommend this for the steamy sex scenes, the snarky main characters, and the sweet love story at the core.
